VTB Bank and the Georgian Football Federation have signed an agreement according to which the bank becomes the Georgian national football team’s general sponsor. At a meeting in the Tbilisi Marriott hotel, VTB general director Archil Kontselidze, and the GFF president Levan Kobiashvili informed the attendees about the agreement, which is due to run for 2 years. The contract contains not only a fixed sponsorship payment, but also results-oriented bonuses that are based on the amount of points collected by the Georgian national team during the World Cup qualifying campaign in 2016 and 2017.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, representatives from VTB Bank and the Georgian Football Federation, former players, and other guests.
VTB Bank has traditionally been very supportive of the sports sector. Apart from the football national team, it also acts as the general sponsor of the water polo national side, the gymnastics federation, the equestrianism federation, and other sports teams.
VTB Bank’s general director Archil Kontselidze stated the following:
“Today we have formed the basis for a very significant partnership. We are delighted to have added the Georgian football national team to VTB Bank’s sponsorship projects. The rich traditions of Georgian football are a source of pride and a symbol of achievement for us, as for everyone else in Georgia. For many people, the love for Georgian football starts during childhood and lasts for the rest of their lives.
“Today we all agree that football needs the country’s and the society’s support. The State Football Development Programme is an illustration of this fact. I am sure that combined efforts will bring us success in the future.
“VTB Bank’s support for football includes the following: supporting the national team, supporting the project of popularising the game, as well as supporting the development of youth and indoor football. Furthermore, we have provided additional results-oriented funding for the national team. Therefore, we hope that VTB Bank’s support will mark the beginning of a very successful era.”
“I would like to thank our new partners – the bank which will act as the Georgian national football team’s main supporter from today. At this stage, it is a great honour for us to be cooperating with a successful company that wishes to play its part in funding football in the country. The involvement of the private sector is vital in today’s game. Our agreement includes many different activities, and I think that our partnership will be a success for both our national side and for our partner company,” added the Georgian Football Federation president Levan Kobiashvili.
