The UEFA Under-19 Championship trophy continues its journey across the country. On 15 May, leading figures from the Georgian Football Federation and the European Championship ambassador Zurab Khizanishvili brought the cup to the region of Guria.
Youngsters assembled at the Ivlita Jibuti Library in the town of Chokhatauri were told by the aforementioned guests about the tournament, and were given the opportunity to ask questions and take photos with the trophy. At the initiative of the GFF, the youngsters in question will attend the match between Georgia and Portugal, which will take place on 2 July at the Tengiz Burjanadze Stadium in Gori.
“The trophy will travel all over the country. Our aim is to tell young people everywhere about the significance of this tournament, which will showcase many future stars of the game,” stated GFF President Levan Kobiashvili.
Tournament ambassador Zurab Khizanishvili spoke about the importance of Georgia hosting the European Championship, and highlighted the role to be played by fans:
“I am delighted to be given the role of promoting this tournament, which is highly significant for our country. I am happy to meet these young people and other fans, and provide them with information about the tournament.”
The trophy was later taken to the Chokhatauri Central Stadium, where a Regional League game took place between Bakhmaro Chokhatauri and Mertskhali Ozurgeti. The match was attended by Levan Kobiashvili, Zurab Khizanishvili, as well as GFF Vice-President Kakha Chumburidze.
