GFF President Levan Kobiashvili has issued a statement regarding the events that occurred upon the conclusion of the match between Georgia and Armenia on 23 March:

“I am grateful for the loud and passionate backing that our national team received throughout the match at Dinamo Arena. As always, your support was felt by the players and acted as an inspiration for them. For that, I would like to thank the fans. Having said that, I must address the events that occurred after the conclusion of the match, when some spectators invaded the field and created an unsavoury incident both on the pitch and in front of the guest fan section.

Such behaviour towards our guests is completely unacceptable. Through these actions, we not only insulted the visiting fans, but also deprived our own team of the opportunity to celebrate the victory with the fans.

These actions are damaging for Georgian football and harmful for the image of our country abroad. Furthermore, this incident may be followed by imposition of penalties from UEFA, which will hurt our national team and Georgian football supporters.

I would like to thank the Armenian team and their fans for creating a friendly environment both in Tbilisi and Yerevan. My special gratitude goes towards the Football Federation of Armenia for being excellent hosts. The close sporting links between our countries have recently been strengthened by our joint bid to host the prestigious FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2029, and I hope that both Georgia and Armenia will be able to benefit from staging this great event.

Football unites and creates success. I want to thank every member of our national team – players, coaches and staff, for their dedication and for proving their winning mentality in the recent play-off fixtures.
