The UEFA European U-21 Championship trophy tour took start in Batumi on 26 March. Numerous events were held to mark the occasion.
The trophy travelled through the streets of Batumi together with the Coca-Cola convoy, finally reaching Europe Square, where a festive concert took place. Popular singers and bands who took part in the concert included Nutsa Buzaladze, Salio, Shvidkatsa, Sopo Khalvashi and various local bands.
GFF Vice-President Alexander Iashvili carried the tournament trophy into the square, where GFF General Secretary David Mujiri and Mayor of Batumi Archil Chikovani addressed the public.
The trophy will travel from Batumi to Mestia, and will then arrive in Kutaisi on 2 May. The following stops will be Ambrolauri and Kazbegi. The final stop will be the main host city of Tbilisi. The trophy will travel across Georgia in the ‘magic convoy’ organised by tournament sponsors Coca-Cola.
The UEFA European U-21 Championship will be co-hosted by Georgia and Romania from 21 June until 8 July. The Georgian host cities will be Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi.
