The 2023 UEFA European U-21 Championship has kicked off with Group ‘A’ matches in Georgia. Paichadze Stadium in Tbilisi hosted the tournament opening ceremony, followed by the match between Georgia and Portugal, which the hosts won 2:0. Goals were scored by Giorgi Gagua and Saba Sazonov.
Prior to the match, outdoor activities were organised near the stadium. Fans also had the opportunity to attend a concert by the popular band Bedford Falls.
The other group match between the U-21 national teams of Belgium and Netherlands finished scoreless.
The second match day fixtures will be played in Batumi and Kutaisi. England will face the Czech Republic at Batumi Arena, while Shengelia Arena in Kutaisi will host the match between Germany and Israel.
